No e-mail notification by WordPress or rather Sendmail problems with Gmail Hosted
For quite some time my blog didn’t send me any notification e-mails anymore. Today I finally had the time to investigate and I really needed that time. The symptom is quite common with WordPress and I tried one solution approach after the other, but none worked out for me. After hours of trying I had enough and wanted to check, if my Sendmail was just broken. And as a matter of fact
didn’t work on hiegl.net. But when I tried the same script on hiegl.eu, everything was just finde and the e-mail got in my inbox. The difference between hiegl.net and hiegl.eu is, that I use Gmail Hosted or rather Google Apps for Your Domain as it is called now on hiegl.net. And exactly that is the problem. Sendmail does not know, that my MX-records are not longer directed to the same server and tries to handle e-mails to the own domain locally – but there are no email-adresses anymore and therefor nothing happens (except for an /usr/sbin/sendmail: unexpected response 550 to RCPT TO command error).
Update:
I’m not so sure about the problem anymore. My provider told me he would look into it and suddenly this morning it worked again. I thanked him and asked what he changed, so that I could tell you. His answer was quite suprising – he didn’t change anything. Apparently the problem was not at this side but rather at Google’s and somebody fixed it there. Thanks anyway ;-)
